Zoos race to protect animals from SARS-CoV-2


Maryland Zoo is among at least 70 zoos vaccinating vulnerable animals for SARS-CoV-2, including nonhuman primates, felids and a badger. Six African lions, a Sumatran tiger and two Amur tigers at the Smithsonian National Zoo recently tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection and are being treated with anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea and antibiotic drugs, and zoo officials say they plan to administer the experimental veterinary vaccine this autumn.
