Animal disease labs step up to help prevent pandemics


Scientists at animal disease labs were already studying coronaviruses and had experience with animal disease epidemics when SARS-CoV-2 began spreading, and labs across the US mobilized to support human testing and research. Labs including the new National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility in Kansas are continuing to work with the USDA and the Department of Homeland Security on emerging disease surveillance and prevention as well as vaccine development.
