Experts have high hopes for new antivirals program


National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci calls the $3 billion Antiviral Program for Pandemics "an ambitious program" that has a good chance of producing direct-acting, oral antivirals. Developing an antiviral is complicated, and most promising compounds fail, but pediatric infectious disease specialist Richard Whitley says the new APP reduces the economic risks.
