Team Feline defends cat genomics


The scientific community doesn't fully appreciate the potential contribution to human and animal health that studying cats can bring, veterinarian Leslie Lyons, a professor at the University of Missouri, writes in Trends in Genetics. Studying feline genomes can yield insights on human cancer and kidney disease and inform conservation efforts, say Dr. Lyons and colleagues working on the 99 Lives Cat Genome Sequencing Initiative.
