Training more veterinarians, techs won't have immediate impact


The New England Institute of Technology is raising the number of students per cohort in its veterinary technician program from 24 to 36, but associate's degree programs take 18 to 24 months, so the increase won't have an immediate effect on the workforce, says Nicholas Raimondi, an instructor and Rhode Island Veterinary Technician Association board member. The class size at Tufts University's School of Veterinary Medicine is also up slightly again this year, but it will be years before those students graduate, says Dean Alastair Cribb.
