Don't snuggle up to the cat, dog if you have COVID-19

People can transmit SARS-CoV-2 to pet dogs and cats, but the majority of cases in dogs and cats are mild and there is no scientific evidence that they can transmit the novel coronavirus to people, says veterinary pathologist Dorothee Bienzle, who has studied predictors of infection like close and prolonged contact between cats and owners. People who have COVID-19 should take steps to avoid infecting pets, and anyone with an infected pet should wear a mask and gloves when in contact with the animal, Dr. Bienzle says.
