Some fruits can be a safe treat for dogs


While dogs may express interest in whatever their owners are eating, people should share fruits and other snacks judiciously, and some such as grapes should be avoided entirely, veterinarians say. AVMA spokesperson Michael San Filippo said fruit should be "given in small, bite-sized portions, with the cores, stems, peels and seeds removed," and it should only be offered occasionally, as dogs have special nutritional needs that should be met by their regular diet.
