Veterinary sedative may be playing role in opioid crisis


The veterinary sedative xylazine is not approved for use in humans but it seems to be playing an increasing role in human opioid overdose deaths. Use appears to be increasing in some states, and although xylazine was involved in only 2% of US overdose deaths in 2019, it was listed as a contributor to mortality in about two-thirds of cases where it was detected.
