Bone marrow transplant gives Lab more years of life


Galaxie the Labrador retriever was just 5 when he was diagnosed by Cornell University veterinarians with B-cell lymphoma, and though the family knew Galaxie's life could potentially be extended somewhat with chemotherapy, they opted for a more novel approach to treatment. The dog was given a bone marrow transplant by veterinarian Edmund Sullivan, a pioneer in the field, and three years later Galaxie and his half-brother and stem cell donor are thriving.
