Veterinarians hope spine surgery saves bald eagle


Veterinary surgeons at Atlantic Veterinary College performed surgery to repair the spine of an injured but otherwise healthy bald eagle. This type of spine injury is relatively common in large birds, but the team found documentation of only one similar surgery performed in a bird, and veterinarian Lara Cusack says even if the procedure ultimately fails, it might help birds with similar injuries in the future.
