Filly rebounds from balloon valvuloplasty


Veterinarians in Switzerland performed a balloon valvuloplasty to correct pulmonary stenosis in a 10-day-old foal born with a congenital heart defect. A surgical team led by veterinary cardiologist Katharyn Mitchell inserted a balloon used in human valvuloplasty through the foal's jugular vein, and though the filly recovered slowly, its endurance and behavior had normalized by the time it was 2 years old.
