Veterinary nonprofit meets needs for people and pets


Veterinarian Hanna Ekstrom's Seattle Veterinary Outreach nonprofit has provided care to more than 1,000 animals belonging to the city's homeless and low-income residents, and an infusion of grant money has enabled the organization to pair medical care for people with their veterinary care outreach. Dr. Ekstrom established the organization after more than 25 years in practice, working on her own with just four volunteers, and now she and a staff of 12, including three who work full-time, and their volunteers operate mobile clinics and have helped nearly 1,000 pets so far this year.
