Veterinarians, physicians collaborate on bonobo surgery


Five-year-old bonobo Qasai is back with his troop at the Milwaukee County Zoo after undergoing two surgeries that brought together veterinarians and physicians to treat abscesses in the animal's brain. When veterinarian Pam Govett initially examined Qasai, he appeared to have a dental infection, but imaging revealed two lesions in the left cerebellum of the brain, and though an initial surgery did not fully address the issue, follow-up surgery plus medication appears to have been effective.
