Wild manatees don't bite on lettuce


Although captive manatees eat lettuce, wild manatees have not been observed eating the lettuce that's been set out for them in an attempt to prevent another mass starvation event, but wildlife officials have not given up, though they urge the public not to try feeding the animals. Algae blooms caused by pollution have killed seagrass, manatees' primary food source, and the recovery project also includes restoration of seagrass beds.
