Multistate salmonellosis outbreak linked to pet reptiles


Contact with pet bearded dragons is the likely cause of Salmonella Uganda infections in 44 people across 25 states between Dec. 24, 2020, and Dec. 2, 2021, the CDC says. Of the 33 people with salmonellosis interviewed by public health officials, 21 reported contact with a bearded dragon before falling ill, and the CDC recommends washing your hands after handling a bearded dragon, not kissing or snuggling the reptiles, keeping them out of the kitchen, not eating or drinking near a bearded dragon, and keeping pet reptiles' supplies and habitats clean.
