How veterinary technicians keep practices humming


Veterinary technicians assist veterinarians by getting patients settled in exam rooms, checking vital signs and performing basic physical exams, keeping animals calm and still for injections and blood draws, preparing animals for surgery, and collecting and evaluating samples. The profession is rewarding for people who like medicine, like animals and have a caregiving mentality, says veterinarian Vicky McGrath.
