What pet owners need to know about copperhead bites


While pets can't be totally protected from venomous snakes, it is possible to reduce the risk of a bite by keeping dogs leashed and cats indoors. Dogs that nose around in shrubs, piles of dead leaves and thick ground cover may be more prone to run into a copperhead snake, and dogs that are bitten should be rushed to a veterinarian, says veterinarian Steven Marks, an associate dean and director of veterinary medical services at North Carolina State University.
