Studying techniques to mitigate the damage of wildfires


The 30,000-acre Sycan Marsh Preserve in Oregon functions something like a wildfire laboratory, with officials at The Nature Conservancy using different treatments on different parts of the forest to study the results. A section of forest known as the Coyote Restoration, which had undergone thinning and controlled burns, seemed to do the best job of withstanding the Bootleg Fire last year.
