Research uncovers racist history of property deeds


Millions of old property deeds still contain covenants barring certain groups of people from living in or owning homes -- a product of redlining and racist zoning practices -- even though the covenants have been unenforceable since 1948, according to an investigation by a group of news organizations. Removing or amending the offending language can be a laborious and bureaucratic process.
