Bill to avert federal shutdown sans highway stopgap


A House bill introduced by House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., to avert a government shutdown includes $26.8 billion to help areas recovering from natural disasters. However, the bill does not provide stopgap funding for federal-aid highways and transit to extend past Sept. 30, and the funding won't be needed if the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is passed on Sept. 27, notes Jay Hansen, National Asphalt Pavement Association executive vice president for advocacy.
