Major grocers make strides in fight against food waste


Albertsons, Kroger and Walmart are among the major food retailers that have committed to stop food waste by using approaches that include discounting items nearing their "Use By" dates and repurposing "ugly foods," such as blemished produce. The efforts are picking up steam and have already helped the industry cut food waste from 43 billion pounds in 2008 to 21 billion pounds in 2019.
