Lacy: Functional abdominal pain a common GI complaint

About 1% of the general population is affected by centrally mediated abdominal pain syndrome, but it is a much more common patient complaint among gastroenterology referrals, Brian E. Lacy, MD, PhD, FACG, of the Mayo Clinic, said in a video from the ACG Annual Scientific Meeting. "Functional abdominal pain has a huge impact on patients in terms of health care utilization and quality of life, and I think there are opportunities for us to treat these patients better," Lacy said.
