Study links PPI use to severe COVID-19

Patients who take proton pump inhibitors were not at a higher risk for contracting COVID-19 or dying from it but were more likely to have a severe case, according to a meta-analysis led by Chenyu Sun, MD, MSc, of AMITA Health Saint Joseph Hospital in Chicago and published in the Japanese Journal of Infectious Diseases. The study analyzed seven cohort studies and seven case-control studies, and researchers say more studies are needed.
