Study examines natural treatments for chronic constipation

A study published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology shows patients with chronic constipation who consumed kiwi fruit, prunes or psyllium had more complete spontaneous bowel movements and reported less straining. "This study confirms the benefits of prunes and psyllium and offer the first US data for green kiwifruit as a safe, effective and well-tolerated treatment for a subset of patients with CC," according to lead author Samuel Chey, MPH, of the University of Michigan and colleagues.
