White House: No pandemic lockdowns planned


White House coronavirus response coordinator Jeff Zients said the US government has no plans to implement lockdowns to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, noting the US has "tools to accelerate the path out of this pandemic," including widely available vaccines. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said the country's current seven-day average for new COVID-19 cases is up 18% to 92,800 from the previous week, while daily hospitalizations are up 6% to 5,600 and average daily deaths have reached about 1,000.
