Some hospitals start to ration care amid COVID-19 surge


The spike of COVID-19 cases among unvaccinated people has led hospitals in some Western states such as Idaho, Alaska and Montana to ration health care or implement crisis standards of care. Idaho's largest hospital network sought approval to shift to a model where ICU beds and other scarce resources are given to patients with the highest chance of survival, while other patients receive less effective treatment or palliative care in the most dire circumstances.
