US COVID-19 cases surpass 43M, death toll nears 689K

The US has recorded more than 4 million reported COVID-19 cases this month, bringing the total for the pandemic to more than 43 million, while total deaths reached 688,982, according to Johns Hopkins University. The current seven-day averages for new cases and hospitalizations dropped 17.1% and 14.4%, respectively, compared with the previous week, while weekly average mortality climbed 0.7% to 1,557, according to the CDC.
