US oil, gas mergers tangled in regulatory red tape


At least five oil and natural gas mergers and acquisitions are facing delayed approval processes as the Federal Trade Commission tightens its scrutiny of energy deals in an unprecedented shift that threatens to slow upstream dealmaking. "Even though previous Democratic FTC commissioners wanted active enforcement, the industry was told what the standards were, deals got reviewed and things moved along. This is really different," said former acting FTC chair Maureen Ohlhausen.
