Diabetes, stroke, heart disease deaths rose last year

US death rates for nine conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, climbed during the COVID-19 pandemic last year, according to the CDC, and experts attribute much of the increase to decisions by many Americans not to seek hospital care due to fear of COVID-19. Death rates due to heart disease and diabetes rose more than 3% and 14%, respectively, compared with the previous year, while the Alzheimer's death rate climbed 8%, stroke mortality rose 4%, hypertension mortality increased by 12% and the Parkinson's disease death rate grew by 11%.
