Metabolically healthy obesity raises risk for T2D, CVD

People with obesity but normal blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol levels still had more than four times greater odds of developing type 2 diabetes, compared with those without obesity, according to a study in Diabetologia. The findings, based on data from 381,363 adults, also revealed that those with metabolically healthy obesity had an 18% greater risk for heart attack or stroke, 76% higher risk for heart failure, 28% higher risk of respiratory diseases and 19% greater risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder.
