Miss., Va. universities collaborate on biofuel study

Researchers from Mississippi State University, Virginia Tech, the University of Maryland and other institutions will share $3.5 million in funding from the Department of Energy to explore biofuel production from landfill waste. A companion project funded with $2.5 million from the DOE will study production of bioplastics without fossil fuels, and the team aims to create products that break down more readily than existing plastics.
