N.Y. subcontractor's lien rejected for incorrect check


The Kings County, N.Y., Clerk's Office rejected a lien filing by a state subcontractor due to a check written for $5 more than the filing fee. The contractor filed a lawsuit, but the court ruled in favor of the county, saying "county clerks become obligated to perform their duties when the statutory prerequisites are satisfied and the proper fee is paid."
