Behind Jessica Simpson's bid for her namesake brand


Jessica Simpson and her mother, Tina Simpson, have been negotiating to acquire the 62.5% share of the celebrity's namesake fashion brand from Sequential Brands Group, which has been selling off its portfolio since filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in August. The mother-and-daughter team founded the brand in 2005, and sales of the brand's footwear line grew 92% in the second quarter compared with the same period last year, according to licensee Camuto Group.
