A school in Australia that has adopted an International Baccalaureate programme recently learned how to construct gardens that could survive in regions prone to flooding. The goal, officials say, is to bring science, technology, engineering and maths concepts into the classroom, while also learning about other cultures.

An independent prep school in London will teach students ages 1 through 13 Chinese and English through an immersion programme that starts with a preschool. Slated to open in 2017, the school is believed to be the first of its kind in Europe and has received interest from multilingual families.

Mindfulness lessons are showing up in more primary and secondary schools in the UK. The Mindfulness in Schools Project notes that the number of teachers receiving mindfulness education training this year -- about 1,350 -- has doubled since last year.

100 schools in India to adopt international tests
About 100 schools in a state in India will adopt an international curriculum and prepare for international exams, including the Programme for International Student Assessment. The state is working to select the schools.

Several US eighth-graders in Massachusetts recently discussed their science projects with middle-school students in Turkey using Skype as part of the district's collaboration with faculty from the Istanbul Technical University. Superintendent Jeff Mulqueen says the students enjoyed working with their Turkish counterparts.
