Wyo. state education board halts work on new science standards
The Wyoming State Board of Education has voted to suspend the work of a state education department committee reviewing new science standards. The board doubted the committee's ability to come up with acceptable standards after the state Legislature barred it from using Next Generation Science Standards. Districts will continue to use standards adopted in 2008 until the state adopts new ones. Wyoming Public Media (7/1)

Tenn. education board revises teacher-evaluation policies
The Tennessee State Board of Education has withdrawn a policy that would have pulled the licenses of poor-performing teachers, after the state Legislature outlawed the practice. The board now is considering a policy that offers professional-development credits for teachers who earn top annual evaluations and directs local districts to create teacher-improvement programs.
