Editorial: Congestion pricing would be good for NYC
The Newsday editorial board voices support for a plan by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to implement congestion pricing in Manhattan. Tolling would provide vital funding for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and that would include the ability to modernize and upgrade the Long Island Rail Road, the editorial board writes.

A video from the Georgia Department of Transportation shows artistic renderings of the managed toll lanes it plans to add on Interstate 285 and Georgia 400. The design of the lanes has not been finalized.

Ill. governor appoints new members to tollway board
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has named James Sweeney, president and business manager of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150, among his appointees to the Illinois Toll Highway Authority Board. Sweeney previously served on the board from 2011 to 2015.

Conn. General Assembly panel to hold hearing on tolling plan
A public hearing before the Connecticut General Assembly's Transportation Committee will focus on Gov. Ned Lamont's plan to place tolls on highways across the state. Lamont says the state needs tolls to fund transportation, but opponents argue that residents can't shoulder the costs.

Pa. plans to finish $800M tollway extension
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is planning to complete the final section of the $800 million Southern Beltway project and will conduct a public hearing on the roughly three-mile extension. Work on the $174.3 million phase of the project is expected to be finished by 2022.

German auto industry plans $68B investment in EVs and AVs
German automakers will invest $68 billion over three years in developing electric and autonomous vehicles, said Bernhard Mattes, president of the German Association of the Automotive Industry. Electric vehicles are necessary for European countries to meet carbon dioxide goals, and Germany likely will surpass the EU average in terms of new electric vehicles, Mattes said.

Ind. using some toll revenue to improve hiking, biking trails
Indiana is making $90 million in certain revenue from the Indiana Toll Road available for counties to enhance or construct hiking and biking trails. So far, 42 of Indiana's 92 counties have applied for such grants.

Indonesian construction company looks to recoup land-purchase costs
A subsidiary of Indonesian state-owned construction company PT Waskita Karta says repayment has been slow for the $445.41 million it paid to acquire land for government toll road projects. The company said it is facing cash flow concerns because of the slow pace of repayment.

Wis. governor proposes raising gas tax
Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers' budge proposal calls for an eight-cent gas tax increase to help generate more than $600 million over two years to fund transportation projects. The increase would put the state's gas tax at 40.9 cents per gallon, but the proposal's success in the Republican-controlled Legislature is doubtful.

Fla. lawmakers to examine potential for toll road projects
Florida Senate President Bill Galvano plans to work on a plan to extend the Suncoast Parkway and the Florida Turnpike and construct the Heartland Parkway as the state's 60-day legislative session begins this week. Gov. Ron DeSantis, however, has shown hesitance to increase the state's use of toll roads.
