Study: Aerobic exercise improves children's attention, mood
Among children at risk for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, aerobic exercises before the beginning of the school day led to greater improvements in attention and mood than sedentary classroom activities, U.S. researchers found. Mont. teachers connect on Twitter for PD, peer support

Montana has adopted its own educator hashtag, #mtedchat, and more teachers are using it as they connect on Twitter, post links to articles, share resources and offer support and guidance to peers. Educators are connecting on Tuesday evenings for a Twitter chat that has covered topics, including "Creating Culturally Responsive Classrooms." Billings Gazette (Mont.) (9/8)

A number of school districts nationwide are shifting away from zero-tolerance policies in light of evidence that such policies may be ineffective and discriminatory. Some districts instead have adopted restorative-justice programs, where the focus is on interventions rather than automatic referrals to school administrators. Study: Therapy shows promise among infants with signs of autism
A small study of a behavioral therapy designed for infants with symptoms of autism shows promise in reversing developmental delays. Using the Early Start Denver program as a model, researchers taught parents of seven 6- to 15-month-olds how to engage their infants during everyday activities, and only two of the children later were diagnosed with autism.
