UN condemns deadly militia attack on Mali village
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UN Security Council President Francois Delattre have condemned an attack on a village in central Mali that left at least 134 people dead, calling the violence "unspeakable." Mali's Prime Minister Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga has fired a number of senior military staff in the wake of the incident and ordered the dissolution of a militia group reportedly behind the attack.

UN chief calls for stronger protections for religious sites
Places of worship need stronger protections, says United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. In the wake of the deadly attacks on two New Zealand mosques, the UN chief has asked the UN Alliance of Civilizations to work with world leaders and religious officials to draft a plan to prevent further violence against religious sites.

WHO warns TB is still deadliest infection in the world
Tuberculosis is still the deadliest infection in the world, and global leaders must unite to find and treat all cases to eradicate the disease, said World Health Organization Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as the agency marked World Tuberculosis Day. The International Organization for Migration has warned that migrants face a particularly high risk of contracting the disease.

Rights group claims visas were denied for would-be CSW attendees
The International Service for Human Rights, a group affiliated with the United Nations, says some women wishing to attend the recent UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York were denied entry visas by the US government. The US is prohibited by treaty from preventing individuals or civilian organizations from attending events at UN headquarters.

UNEP teams with Google on global fresh water app
The United Nations Environment Programme has worked in partnership with Google to develop and launch a software application that will allow users to more easily monitor global fresh water levels. The UN is hopeful the application will facilitate better sustainable water practices around the world.
