"There's an under-realized aspect of the industry. There are opportunities for someone to work as a manager in a restaurant without a college degree and make an upper-middle class salary before they're 30," Kadow says. How meditation can make you a better boss
Mindfulness meditation is one way leaders can become more self-aware and less reflexive in their leadership, writes Manish Chopra. Whatever the outlet, find something that takes you away, even momentarily, from the constant demands of work. Doing so will help at work, too; Chopra notes how "regular meditation has helped me better identify those things that I truly need to be involved with and those that could carry on without my direct involvement." Assumptions kill communication
Conversations become frustrating when people are focused inward rather than on others, which often results in "a deep gulf in understanding," writes Harvey Schachter. "Don't assume subordinates know as much as you do," he adds. "At the same time, don't drone on with everything you know, to compensate."
