Calif. governor rejects fees for Lombard Street in San Francisco
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill that would have charged motorists $5 to $10 to access Lombard Street in San Francisco. The bill was proposed as a reservation-and-fee system to help the Russian Hill neighborhood better control the 1 million cars and 2 million tourists per year who visit the winding street.

Cashless toll payments grow more common in New Delhi
Cashless FASTag toll payments processed for National Highways Authority of India roads in New Delhi in September nearly doubled to 34% of such transactions compared with November, according to the National Payments Corporation of India. The radio frequency identification stickers for payments were instituted in December 2016 to lessen congestion at toll booths.

Texas road to see slight toll increase
The cost to travel the 41-mile stretch of Texas State Highway 130 from Mustang Ridge to Seguin will rise on Nov. 11. The first toll increase in four years will raise the toll by nine cents for a standard car, which would be charged about $7.48, and by 36 cents for an 18-wheeler, which would be charged about $29.87.

Rollout of Abu Dhabi tolls delayed until Jan.
Tolls on the new Abu Dhabi Traffic Toll Gate System, in the United Arab Emirates, are now scheduled to take effect Jan. 1, according to the Abu Dhabi Department of Transportation. The department also said that toll exemptions will be provided for groups including retirees and low-income earners.

NHTSA wants input on cameras in lieu of mirrors plan

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is seeking industry and public input on allowing camera monitoring systems to replace rear- and side-view mirrors in cars. The agency has been studying the issue for more than ten years, and its findings haven't been purely positive for the cameras.

UK toll roads proposed amid shift to lower-emissions vehicles

Wash., Ore. officials trying again to replace I-5 bridge
New state and local political officials are fostering an optimistic outlook for a proposed $3 billion-plus project to ease congestion on the Interstate 5 bridge crossing the Columbia River between Portland, Ore., and Vancouver, Wash. The project, which has failed previously, is aimed at addressing what the American Transportation Research Institute has deemed the 29th-biggest truck bottleneck in the US.
