Australia promotes Asian literacy in schools

Study: Genetics plays role in child's motivation to learn
Researchers analysed more than 13,000 identical twins ages 9 to 15 in six countries and found that a child's learning motivation was influenced by genetics and the environment, with each factor accounting for up to 50% of a child's motivation behaviour. The findings were published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences. HealthDay News (13 Apr.)

Report: Countries fall short of United Nation's education goals
Fifty-two percent of countries offer universal primary education, according to a recent UNESCO report. But that number falls short of goals established by the United Nations in 2000. "There are still 58 million children out of school globally and around 100 million children who do not complete primary education," according to Irina Bokova, UNESCO's director-general. Researchers embark on international study of language learning
Researchers have announced an international project that will observe how children in different parts of the world learn native languages. Children of three indigenous tribes in Canada -- the Dene, East Cree and Inuktitut -- will be observed.
