Toys R Us dips its toe back into brick-and-mortar retail

Toys R Us opened the first of two planned stores last week at the Westfield Garden State Plaza mall in Paramus, N.J. New owner Tru Kids Brands, which acquired the iconic toy brand's assets last year, was also slated to open a location in Houston on Sunday.

Licensing firm bids $50M for Destination Maternity assets

Neuberger Berman Group-backed licensing firm Marquee Brands has made a bid to acquire the intellectual property, brand name and e-commerce operations of Destination Maternity for $50 million, according to bankruptcy court filings. Under the deal, Destination Maternity would close its remaining 235 brick-and-mortar stores.

De Beers has launched a line of synthetic diamonds and is working on a traceability system to guarantee the provenance of its natural stones. The moves come as the global diamond seller looks to ensure that diamonds remain a valuable purchase among US millennials and the rising middle class in Asia, CEO Bruce Cleaver said.

Preliminary estimates are showing that crowds turned out to shop on Black Friday, and many took advantage of pre-Thanksgiving deals. Association decks out 5th Avenue windows
The Fifth Avenue Association worked with designer Mark Briggs to create holiday window displays in four empty storefronts on the famous New York City street. Wage increases and low unemployment are expected to drive shopper spending this holiday season, despite concerns about import tariffs. "We know that consumers are out and have already been shopping. That's a good indicator," NRF Chief Economist Jack Kleinhenz said.
