Baltimore's ZeroFOX secures $40M to boost tech, global presence
Baltimore-based social media cybersecurity firm ZeroFOX has received $40 million in a Series C funding round led by Redline Capital Management and Silver Lake Waterman, which CEO James Foster hopes will allow the company to boost its tech and global presence and eventually prepare for an initial public offering.

Security council shares recommendations to stop cyberattacks
The Maryland Cybersecurity Council has released a set of recommendations aimed at stopping cyberattacks before they start. Among the tips, the council suggests identifying infrastructure that could allow hackers to easily access sensitive information and not charging a fee to freeze the credit of someone whose personal information has been stolen.

DOD finds cybersecurity flaws at 3 Army hospitals
The Defense Department found severe cybersecurity vulnerabilities at three Army hospitals and clinics in Maryland, Texas and Colorado. A report notes that the facilities did not properly store electronic patient health information, did not require the use of Common Access Cards and did not enlist proper authentication to access health records.

Medical implants and other medical devices are increasingly subject to being targeted by hackers, said Arxan CTO Sam Rehman. Providers are advised to increase their medical devices' security levels by conducting a thorough risk assessment and fixing vulnerabilities, Rehman said.

CDC committee recommends against using LAIV in 2017-2018
The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended against using FluMist, the live attenuated influenza vaccine, during the upcoming 2017-2018 flu season due to reduced efficacy. The committee also voted in favor of clarifying the influenza recommendation for pregnant women.

Makers of medical devices could be given a less strict set of procedures for reporting device malfunctions to the Food and Drug Administration. If Congress passes the proposed agreement, companies would need to report malfunctions every three months instead of within 30 days of any issues.

CNBC recently identified Maryland as the No. 25 state in which to do business. This is the highest ranking for the state since CNBC initiated the annual list, with Gov.
