Kohl's to end Off/Aisle discount business

Kohl's will shutter all four of its Off/Aisle locations and exit the four-year-old discount retail concept on Aug. 3, executive Jon Grosso wrote in a staff memo. The concept was created to sell Kohl's returns at deep discounts, but inventory management improvements at full-line Kohl's stores left Off/Aisle stores short of stock, the memo said.

Gap to launch water-saving experiment in India
Gap will team with India's Arvind to open a facility in Ahmedabad, India, that will focus on finding ways to reduce water usage in the apparel industry. The companies will also create a water treatment plant that will make treated wastewater available to the garment industry.

Neiman Marcus is discounting more luxury goods and continuing to invest in integrating in-store and digital sales as part of a turnaround strategy. The retailer, which reported a 1.5% dip in third-quarter same-store sales, said its new flagship at New York City's Hudson Yards as a place to test new services and experiences, CEO Geoffroy van Raemdonck said.

Kroger becomes latest retailer to offer CBD products

Kroger is rolling out CBD products to 945 stores in 17 states, offering items like oils, balms and creams. The grocer joins the ranks of CVS, Walgreens and Vitamin Shoppe in offering the products, but will not be able to sell CBD-infused food or drinks until further FDA rulings.

Today's video surveillance systems protect stores' bottom line
Convenience chain Sprint Food Stores has installed a new surveillance system that has already yielded major results. The advanced video surveillance system from i3 International has resolved five major incidents since Sprint Food started a pilot installation in 2017, including an incident involving a truck driving over a fuel price sign and then pulling away, and another where a truck sheared the roof off a Sprint Food storage shed. How retailers are fighting "friendly fraud"
"Friendly fraud" is a subset of credit card and debit card fraud where a customer disputes a charge and the bank doesn't investigate whether a fraud actually took place. Instead, the bank just takes the customer's word for it and issues a chargeback to the merchant, who then has to fight the claim. It's costly, especially for online retailers -- it's estimated that 28% of all e-commerce revenue today is lost to friendly fraud. Read more from NRF's STORES magazine.

Sweetgreen buys meal delivery firm Galley Foods

Health-focused fast-casual chain Sweetgreen has acquired Washington, D.C.-based prepared meal delivery service Galley Foods for an undisclosed amount. The deal will expand the 94-unit chain's tech expertise, bring savings on bulk ingredient purchases and help Sweetgreen "accelerate our delivery and dinner businesses," CEO Jonathan Neman said.
