Free summer lunch programs go where children play, live
Summer nutrition programs around the U.S. are trying to serve free lunch to more children as data show that about 15% of students who can get free and reduced-price meals during the school year have access to them during the summer. Ross Fraser of Feeding America said reductions in funding have led to fewer locations where children can gather for free lunch, so food banks and other program sponsors are more mobile and take meals to children where they live and play.
