California Stem Cell receives grant to help develop 3D retina
A $4.5 million grant from the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine has allowed California Stem Cell to tap the University of California at Irvine to continue research and development of transplantable 3D retinas using stem cells, which could lead to treatments for diseases such as age-related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa. CSC will differentiate and culture the stem cells while UC Irvine will conduct in vivo studies at its Sue & Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center.
