What foods do World Cup players use as fuel?
Nutritionist Danielle LaFata works with Team USA, for the FIFA World Cup, and keeps them stocked with kiwi and bananas to help replace potassium lost because of sweat. The athletes need to eat every two to three hours and some consume 3,000 to 4,000 calories per day. The meals also include protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats, all seasoned with herbs and spices instead of salt.
