N.C. students study Holocaust victim's 1939 letter, try to find her family
Students at East Henderson High School in North Carolina have developed a personal connection to Holocaust victim Betty Erb of Germany, who wrote a letter in 1939 to a U.S. man she believed was a relative who could help her escape Nazi Germany. Erb died at Auschwitz in 1943 and students have spent a semester trying to find her relatives so the letter can be given to them. History teacher Todd Singer said the students remain dedicated even though the assignment has ended. "To me, it's a living history assignment," said Singer, a retired judge.
