Compromise on VA bill hinges on offsetting costs
U.S. lawmakers are negotiating a compromise bill to reduce a Department of Veterans Affairs medical appointment logjam by allowing veterans to go outside the VA for care. Talks have focused on a House demand for offsetting costs as the Congressional Budget Office estimated the Senate bill to be $35 billion over three years and the House bill to be $44 billion over six years.
