Regulator aims to develop offshore safety database this year
The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement of the U.S. Department of the Interior intends to develop a number of offshore safety programs this year, including a "near-miss" data collection system that would allow voluntary and anonymous incident reporting by offshore drillers. Director Brian Salerno said this program will enable the necessary sharing of information among operators and regulators amid the impending expansion of offshore drilling into the Arctic and off the East Coast.
